Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery, or reduction mammoplasty, is a common procedure designed to reduce the size and shape of the breasts. The initial aim of the surgery is to make the breasts proportionate to the body’s natural shape and size and relieve the discomfort and the embarrassment of having large breasts.

Excessively large breasts can result in a number of health problems including back, neck and shoulder discomfort and quite often contribute to poor posture. Large breasts can also cause problems during sporting activities and can lead to issues of self-conscious negativity in an individual.

There are several breast reduction techniques that are suitable for all matter of different shapes and sizes of breasts. Factors such as your age, skin elasticity and the degree of droopiness of the breasts will determine the type of operation needed. Fazel Fatah is experienced in all the different techniques and will always recommend what he thinks will work best in your circumstance.

The procedure can be carried out under local anaesthetic with sedation and analgesia, and takes two to three hours to perform. You will be able to go home approximately two hours after the surgery is completed. Alternatively, the procedure is performed under general anaesthetic with an overnight stay in hospital. Time off work is recommended and usually ranges between two and three weeks.

Ultimately, the decision to undergo the surgery is your own personal choice, and Fazel Fatah will guide you with impartial advice to help you reach your final decision.
